What this tool does

This calculator estimates the total charges you would pay across a year on different types of current account, based on how you actually bank. It looks at your everyday use, your overdraft habits and your account type, then shows where the costs come from.

The figures are estimates to help you compare, not a quote from any bank.

When to use it

Use it when you are choosing a new current account, when you are wondering whether a packaged or fee paying account is worth it, or when you suspect you are paying more than you need to in overdraft or transaction charges.

How it works

You enter your typical monthly transactions, transfers and cheques, how often you use an overdraft and the type of account you hold. It then estimates your likely annual charges and explains which habits drive them, so you can see where to save. Nothing you enter is saved, and you do not need to give your name or email to use it. Always check the actual terms and tariff of any account before you switch, as fees change.
